Installing Open Office on Windows
Installation steps:
Step 1: Insert a CD containing Open Office software or alternatively download the file from http://download.openoffice.org
Step 2:Open Windows explorer and copy the "file" Ooo_3.0.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe “ from the CD or download file from website link (link as in step 1) to your Desktop.
Step 3: Browse to the .exe file by going to Desktop and double click on the file to start the installation. At the pop up window click on "unpack" and it will start the installation process.

Next screen will ask you to fill out customer details as Username and organization, fill in required details and click on 'next'. New pop up window will come asking for 'Set up' options, keep it at default option 'complete' and click next.

It will start installing required files and once the process is complete will show a small window saying 'Installation Wizard Completed" at this window, click on 'finish'.

The installation process takes only 5 minutes and will create a desktop shortcut for Open Office. PLease click on the shortcut to launch Open Office. This shortcut will enable you to open a word document, spreadsheet and a presentation. Alternatively you can open "Open Office" program by going to ->Start-> All Programs-> Open Office 
NOTE: While Microsoft Office cannot open Open Office files, Open Office can open the Word (.doc), Excel (.xls) and Powerpoint (.ppt) files of Microsoft Office.
