My experience with Ubuntu: Suparna Diwakar

I am now into my 13th day of jumping into Ubuntu directly from Windows.

I was a little wary at first about getting into something that was totally new. The Open Source Software was also new. But I felt this was the only way I could completely switch, as against a step by step process, keeping in mind that I was convinced about the philosophy of Open Source Software.

So here I am...working quite comfortably with it. It has been a very exciting experience.

IT for Change helped load my brand new laptop with Ubuntu. And answered all my basic questions.
The features help me save time. For example, the create a link option allows you to access a sub,sub folder directly! While I may not have access to a large number of fonts, I think I have more than enough. The Spreadsheet is quite easy to use. I have also used the Presentation option which is simple but adequate.

And I have managed to convince quite a few people that this is the way to go...if you believe in the philosophy of Open Source namely it is egalitarian, facilitates knowledge creation by anybody, helps connect people across the globe at low/no cost.....and saves costs! (I saved about Rs.10,000/-.)

So here I am enjoying the leap I have taken, and learning everyday. I have even become a member of the Open Office Forum!!

Thank you, IT for Change.
